Do Something After School Grants (Deadline: September 15)
Back to school is just around the corner but sometimes it's what kids do after school that makes the biggest impact on their life. Do Something and JCPenney have teamed up to support youth-led after school programs and projects across the country. This fall, we're giving out 10 $500 grants and 5 grand prize $1,000 grants to young people who are providing after school activities that help youth in their community. Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation Literacy and Education Grants (Deadline: September 30)
Literacy and education grants to help children are awarded throughout the year for specific programs with measurable outcomes. We desire to provide support for children in literacy and education programs such as summer reading programs, early childhood education programs and literacy programs for children with special needs. UnitedHealth HEROES Grants (Deadline: October 22)
Educators, service-learning coordinators, students in the health professions, public health professionals, and community partners are eligible to apply for the UnitedHealth HEROES service-learning project grants. Grant recipients will receive up to $1,000 in support for service-learning projects that focus on childhood obesity, engage youth ages 5-25 in the planning and implementation process, and take place during Semester of Service 2010 (MLK Day, January 18, to Global Youth Service Day, April 23-25). The grant cycle opens August 1 and applications are due October 22, 2009. Eligible states include: AL, AZ, AR, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, HI, IL, IN, KY, LA, MD, MA, MI, MN, MO, MS, NV, NJ, NM, NY, NC, OH, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, WA, and WI. 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant Program
To qualified applicants pursuant to Title IV, Part B, of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 to establish or expand community learning centers that provide students with academic enrichment opportunities along with activities designed to complement the students' regular academic program. Additional services programs, and activities can include leadership development activities, drug and violence prevention programs, counseling programs, art, music, and recreation programs, technology education programs, and character education programs.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to collaborate with other public and private agencies, including the local school district, to create programs as comprehensive and high quality as possible. The selection criteria applied by the Colorado 21st CCLC program reflects this emphasis on collaborative approaches to the design and delivery of the proposed community learning centers. K-12 School Improvement Projects Funded
Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation: Toolbox for Education Grant Program
The Toolbox for Education Grant Program, offered by Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation, provides grants of up to $5,000 to K-12 public schools and 501(c)(3) parent-teacher groups associated with public schools that develop projects that encourage parent involvement and build stronger community spirit. Lowe's will donate a total of $5 million to more than 1,000 different schools throughout the U.S. during the 2009-2010 school year. Preference is given to funding requests which have a permanent impact such as facility enhancement or landscaping/clean-up projects. In addition, for this school year basic needs requests will take priority in order to provide the tools that help educators and parent groups through these challenging times. Support for a U.S. Library's Outreach Program
American Library Association: Scholastic Library Publishing National Library Week Grant
The Scholastic Library Publishing National Library Week Grant, administered by the American Library Association (ALA), will be presented to a single library to support outreach efforts during National Library Week (April 11-17, 2010). The proposed public awareness campaign should focus on the National Library Week 2010 theme, "Communities thrive @ your library®." Proposed campaigns must involve at least one other type of library and/or community organization. All libraries and library organizations throughout the United States are welcome to apply for this $3,000 grant. The application deadline is October 16, 2009. Threshold Foundation
The Threshold Foundation works to mobilize money, people, and power to create a more just, joyful, and sustainable world. For the 2009-2010 funding cycle, the Foundation will provide grants to nonprofit organizations through the following two grantmaking committees: The Sustainable Planet Committee will focus on community-based solutions for a sustainable world, local solutions for threatened biodiversity ecosystems worldwide, and climate change efforts to accelerate reduction of carbon emissions through carbon taxes or auctioned cap and trade policies within the United States. The Justice and Democracy Committee will focus on criminal justice reform efforts to address policies that negatively impact youth, drug policy reform to end drug laws that criminalize youth of color and to remove barriers to education for incarcerated youth, and models of building electoral power in historically underrepresented U.S. constituencies. Programs for Disabled Children Supported
CVS Caremark Community Grant Program
The CVS Caremark Community Grant Program supports nonprofit organizations in the communities throughout the U.S. where CVS Caremark stores are located. The company's primary focus area is children with disabilities, including programs focusing on health and rehabilitation services, initiatives that provide greater access to physical movement and play, and public schools promoting a greater level of inclusion in student activities and extracurricular programs. In addition, selected grants are provided to programs that create greater access to healthcare services for uninsured community residents. Growing Kids Awards
Eligibility: K-6 classrooms in the United States with at least 15 students involved in indoor gardening.

Teacher Quality Partnership Grants Program (Modified)
Eligibility: Eligible partnerships must include a high-need local education agency (LEA), a high-need school or consortium of high-need schools served by the high-need LEA, or a high-need early childhood education (ECE) program, and a partner institution (see the RFP for details).
Amount: $143 million to be split into 25 expected grants, with required matching funds.
Purpose of Grant: To improve the quality of new teachers by creating partnerships among institutions of higher education, high-need school districts and high-need schools.

MetLife Foundation: Museum and Community Connections
The purpose of the MetLife Foundation's Museum and Community Connections program is to encourage art museums to reach out to large numbers of people of all ages and backgrounds through imaginative programs and/or exhibits that help people understand and appreciate each other and the world. Nonprofit museums that have been in existence at least five years and are located in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming are eligible to apply for grants of up to $100,000. Funding may be requested for one or a combination of the following categories: Collaborations, Artist Residencies, Exhibits, and Offsite Programming. The application deadline is October 9, 2009. Home Depot Building Healthy Communities Grants (Deadline: December 15)
Grants, up to $2,500, are now available to registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, public schools or tax-exempt public service agencies in the U.S. who are using the power of volunteers to improve the physical health of their community. The New Generations Program was designed by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Theatre Communications Group to address major concerns about the future of the nonprofit theatre. The program’s Future Audiences initiative supports theatres with a successful track record of reaching young, culturally specific, and/or underserved communities. Funded theatres will receive a matching grant of up to $65,000 ($32,500 per year) to support the development or expansion of technology aimed at cultivating a diverse audience. Project support may take a variety of forms, including marketing expenses, programming costs, and hiring new staff to implement expanded programming. Learn and Serve America Higher Education Grants (Deadline: March 9)
Subject to the availability of appropriations for fiscal year 2010, the Corporation for National and Community Service (the Corporation) announces the anticipated availability of approximately $7.3 million to award new Learn and Serve America Higher Education grants.
