Colorado Youth Development

Since funding is all over the place and so hard to locate, I thought this might be a good place to start posting funding opportunities and starting discussions between organizations, parents and youth about how to collaborate to more effectively get funding. I don't have anything to start with at this moment. Does anyone else?

Thanks for posting this TGYS! If people have questions about these grants who can they talk to?

People can contact me and I can answer questions as best I can or send them to the right person.

A new funding opportunity just came across my desk!!

Funding opportunity for Districts/Regions to support Tobacco Prevention and Coordinated School Health. Find out more information at www.rmc.org/funding
For more information contact: lauries@rmc.org or cindys@rmc.org

I get a couple of email newsletters that regularly include funding information:
OJJDP (federal Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention), and Join Together (a private advocacy group). OJJDP routinely includes funding opportunities that go beyond the JJ realm. Join Together is primarily focused on alcohol and substance abuse prevention and treatment, but their funding lists are often broader too.

If folks aren't already subscribed to those two, I recommend checking them out!

We are looking for increased opportunities to create earned income and get off the "grant fix". We've discussed such ideas as taking one of our programs commercial, creating movies/music featuring our youth clientele which will result in products which we can sale, and doubling our special event fundraisers effort.

For us, this is the longterm strategy to (mostly) independent funding.

We're thinking the same way. I think it is time for nonprofits to get off the "grant fix" or at least diversify their funding.

I just wonder what type of market there is out there for some of the "packaged" services or products that we are able to sell? have you guys run into this question? - or better yet, and answer to that question?

As to the current market, I'm not sure. But I'm willing to try to create a new market for such products!

We have been looking at expanding our youth development program to include a more entrepreneurial aspect, especially focused on internet-driven businesses. E.g. If we could create our own "youtube"-esque niche and then sell advertising and/or subscriptions to the site, that would certainly be one approach.

Anyway, these are just nascent ideas which I have been throwing around. Any examples/real experiences out there would be helpful!

it is an interesting idea. It's interesting to ponder though. I'm going to see if there are others who would like to throw around some ideas about this.

OJJDP has a number of funding opportunities right now for evaluating mentoring programs, CASA support, internet crimes against children, and various juvenile justice-related opportunities:

What a great resource! I found a few on here that might fit a youth program - Field Initiated Demonstration Program - was interesting one. There is also one supporting Tribal youth programs! Thanks for sharing Stephanie

I'm happy to contribute what I find out here & hope to get some info, too. ;-D

I'm in the process of securing funding for a transition program for youth "aging-out" of the foster care system here in CO. Specifically, we will be using resources toward the following outcomes:
1 Gainful employment as well as GED & higher ed prep, job readiness, career exploration and exposure
2 Safe and affordable housing close to public transportation
3 Additional support via life-skills training and mentorship

Thanks for starting this! Let's see what we can find together!
